Dance for Parkinson's S.A (SOUTH AFRICA)
In February 2016, fewer than half a dozen people gathered in the Playhouse Theatre studio in Somerset West for the first South African Dance for PD® class. Two years later, Dance for Parkinson’s SA is a registered company presenting seven classes to more than 70 participants each week across the greater Cape Town area.
With classes offered in Somerset West, Pinelands and Mouille Point and more recently in Fish Hoek, Constantia and Sea Point, the programme is steadily becoming more easily accessible to people with Parkinson’s and their families, friends and care partners.
In December 2017, Dance for Parkinson’s SA trained five new teachers in the Dance for PD® method developed by the Mark Morris Dance Group in New York, thus expanding availability of the programme to Pretoria, Potchefstroom and East London. Another teachers’ training course in Durban, KZN, in April 2018 will see the programme expanding even further.
