Care to Dance?/GOTRA (Netherlands)

In the Care to Dance program, participants practice like professional dancers and work on dance phrases from GOTRA repertoire.

A documentary on people with Parkinson's disease prepares a dance performance in collaboration with the Belgian dance school Flex 'and the association Kinesiphilia [love of movement]

Care to Dance is an outreach activity of GOTRA (2006), a contemporary dance company based in the Province of Limburg in the Netherlands, mirroring their latest repertoire and artistic research in weekly dance classes for people with PD. The Care to Dance initiative connects very much to the regional dance community and is located in professional dance studio environments near the home towns of the participants and their dance partner.

Care to Dance applies the advanced Dance for PD method with committed professional dance teachers and is supported by a network of neurologists and physiotherapists. The geographical position close to the border makes it easy to exchange experience and views with the sister organisation Kinesiphilia in Belgium and work together on implementation of new course locations. Researchers of the universities of Maastricht, Liège and Nijmegen monitor the project from both physiological and societal interest. With meetings and symposiums Care to Dance reflects on new developments and insights in the way dance phrases and active cueing keeps the human brain related to natural body movements. For those who join each week, Care to Dance is a pleasant break and a perfect example of the way the language of dance can help and unite people.
